Recommended Post Adoption Tests

This is a list POST ADOPTION tests Norma compiled with the help of postings from the internet over several months and with some editing from her MD sister and friend.

Some are not necessary for an older child because intervention is only successful in infants. Your doctor will know. Your child will probably get a positive TB test and will need a chest X-ray for follow-up. This is primarily because your child will have been immunized for TB which creates the positive test. You can then elect to put them on medication or retest in 6 months before making that decision. (no change in size of the swelling no meds).

You will also want to redo all standard immunizations just in case. Without a Food and Drug Administration there is no quality control on immunization products. Little cost for a lot of prevention.

Also if the child has any cavities check immediately to see if they were made from lead. Occasionally this happens and they must be removed immediately. And don't freak out about lead. There is more lead contamination in wells near civil war battlefields than you know and there is no proof how much is safe for consumption. They think it is like alcohol, varies by individual.

The following tests are suggested for families to test their adopted children for, once back in the United States. Contact your doctor for more information on these tests.
